Professional Woodworm Control Through Advanced Heat Treatment

Heat Treatment Chamber Cyprus

Complete Timber Protection – From Shipping Pallets to Entire Buildings

Wood-boring insects can cause significant damage to timber products, furniture, antiques, shipping crates, pallets and structural wooden elements. Whether you need to protect valuable antiques, treat infested furniture, safeguard shipping materials or eliminate woodworm throughout an entire building, Hirekill offers an advanced and effective heat treatment solution.

At Hirekill, we use specialist heat treatment technology to eliminate woodworm and other wood-boring insects without relying on conventional chemical insecticides. Our controlled heating process penetrates the timber, reaching insects hidden deep inside the wood and targeting every stage of their life cycle, including eggs, larvae, pupae and adult insects.

We have mobile heat treatment vans that can travel to any location around Cyprus, as well as a stationary heat treatment chamber in Larnaca.

A Versatile Solution for All Types of Timber

Our heat treatment solutions are suitable for a wide range of applications:

  • Wooden Pallets: Effective treatment of infested pallets used in storage, warehousing, transportation and logistics.
  • Shipping Crates and Packaging: Treatment of wooden crates, cases and shipping containers to eliminate wood-boring insects and protect goods during transportation.
  • Furniture: Safe, controlled treatment of suitable wooden furniture, helping preserve its structure without applying conventional chemical insecticides.
  • Antiques and Valuable Wooden Items: Specialist heat treatment approaches for suitable antique furniture, decorative wooden objects and historic timber, with careful consideration of their age, construction and sensitivity to temperature.
  • Residential and Commercial Buildings: Comprehensive treatment of infested roof structures, wooden beams, floor joists, flooring, doors and other timber components.
  • Industrial and Commercial Timber: Solutions for warehouses, storage facilities, manufacturing environments and other premises containing significant quantities of timber.

How Does Heat Treatment Work?

Heat treatment is a non-chemical approach to woodworm control that uses carefully controlled temperatures to eliminate wood-boring insects within timber.

Using professional heating equipment and strategically positioned temperature sensors, we gradually raise the temperature of the affected materials until the required lethal temperature is achieved throughout the timber.

The treatment is typically designed around a target timber-core temperature of approximately 55–60°C, maintained for a validated exposure period appropriate to the material and target pest.

This ensures that the heat reaches the internal areas of the wood where eggs and larvae may be developing.

Why Choose Hirekill?

  • Chemical-Free Treatment: No conventional insecticide application is required for the heat treatment process.
  • Deep Timber Penetration: Heat reaches insects concealed inside wooden materials.
  • All Life Stages: Properly controlled treatment targets eggs, larvae, pupae and adult insects.
  • No Chemical Residues: Leaves no insecticide residues on treated materials.
  • Versatile Applications: From individual furniture pieces and shipping pallets to large timber structures and entire buildings.
  • Professional Temperature Monitoring: Controlled heating and monitoring help ensure effective treatment conditions.
  • Tailored Treatment Solutions: Every project is assessed according to the type, size, condition and sensitivity of the timber.

Protecting Valuable Timber Without Unnecessary Chemicals

Unlike conventional surface-applied treatments, heat treatment works by raising the temperature within the timber itself. This makes it particularly useful when treating wooden items where chemical applications may be undesirable.

For antiques, delicate furniture and historically significant wooden structures, an individual technical assessment is essential to determine whether heat treatment is suitable. Temperature-sensitive finishes, adhesives, veneers and other materials must be taken into consideration.

One Specialist Solution. Multiple Applications.

Whether you are a logistics company looking to treat wooden pallets, a business shipping goods in wooden crates, a furniture owner dealing with woodworm, an antique specialist protecting valuable pieces, or a property owner facing a timber infestation, Hirekill can provide a tailored heat treatment solution.

Don’t let woodworm compromise your timber, products or property.

The common furniture beetle’s larvae tunnel for years in seasoned softwood and hardwood, and its exit holes are about 1-2 mm. The powderpost beetle attacks the sapwood of starchy hardwoods and leaves very fine, flour-like dust. The house longhorn beetle prefers dry softwood, such as roof timbers, and produces large oval exit holes and heavy structural damage. Other wood-boring beetles in the same families, such as the deathwatch beetle (Xestobium rufovillosum) and the library beetle (Nicobium castaneum), are also widely recorded around Cyprus.
